Do you judge like a three year old?
Amongst the many wonderful observations from DanDaLion's journey over the last 6 months, there comes the story of 3 year old Kye, and the lesson we can learn from him.
When DanDaLIon first engaged with the Loganlea Community centre courtesy of his Wednesday development coach Miss Crow, it was thought the interaction with those at the centre would be good for Dan's social skills. At the same time it would create routine and a safe place for Dan to learn new things. When he joined the regular playgroup as a volunteer, Dan struck up a lovely friendship with Kye and now whenever Dan can't make it to playgroup Kye is very disappointed, according to his mother.
In itself this is a beautiful story, and we love that DanDaLion contributes to community in this way, but what is the mane story here?
In forming a friendship there was no judgement from Kye around how different Dan is or what his challenges are. Kye simply embraced the fact that this big guy (to him) is loving playing blocks and sharing a fun experience . I guess right now he hasn't been exposed to the learnt human condition of being judgemental.
He is just accepting of the person Dan is!
What if we all made judgements on human interaction through a 3 year old's eyes? How different could our community be?
The next time you find yourself judging someone, think of Kye.
